Comments from the Community

"It would be a gift for any community to have Amy Broyles elected as their representative for public service. My family is lucky enough to have moved into the same neighborhood as Amy and we've seen first hand the hard work and commitment Amy brings to any project. She is smart, diplomatic, resourceful and honest. We need people like Amy in public office and we are fortunate that she is willing to dedicate so much of her time to give back to her community."
Amy Quimby, Director of Original Programming, HGTV, and Second District Resident

"She may be small, but she has LARGE ideas."
Margaret Fontenot, Knox County Resident

"I met Amy when the election was a write in vote for her. She came to my house and we stood at the fence and talked for a while. It was a April day, 2 days after I had eye surgery. Amy is the most down to earth caring person I have met in a long time. And people like her are far and few between these days. By just talking to Amy for a few minutes you realize she is out there to help all the people from the kids to the senior citizens. And everyone should remember we will be older one day and that day will be here before we know it. I've seen first hand how the government treats our seniors. My mom deals with these decisions daily. And with people like Amy I think things can be changed with time."
Linda & William Stone, Second District Residents

"I'm impressed with Ms. Broyles' excellent writing and speaking skills, evidence of her clear thinking and fine organization. She has "teacher" qualities that make her an exceptional public servant."
Sydney Gingrow, Associate Professor, English Department, PSTCC

"Amy has been a tireless worker for the people of Knox County, I know she'll continue to do so as county commissioner. As a co-owner of a small business, Amy knows and understands what such businesses need to thrive in our county. As a parent, Amy understands what makes Knox County a thriving and viable community to live in."
Jenny Nash, Knox County Resident

"Amy is very organized and follows up on all of her obligations. She gives a new meaning to multitasking. What more could we ask for in an elected official?"
Ann Furr, Attorney

"I witnessed first-hand Amy's ability to manage a difficult situation with great poise. In a tense meeting where the parties disagreed, she maintained her composure while clearly articulating our interests and concerns. The ability to make her point without alienating the other party will serve her well as a county commissioner."
Callie F. Adkins, Beaumont School Parent

"As a resident of Old North Knoxville, I have been Amy Broyles' neighbor for over six years. Recently she and I have been working together on a project to create a small pocket park in our neighborhood. She has chaired the meetings, brought people together, and worked to build a consensus of how to proceed. She has handled well differing opinions, while still keeping the project on course. She has worked with people on the committee and in the neighborhood, while maintaining civility and good humor. Even David Watson, executive director of the East Tennessee Community Design Center, has complimented her on how well she handled a recent meeting that he attended, a meeting that could have been contentious, but proceeded rather smoothly. There is nothing like neighborhood politics to bring out the bad and good in people, and it has brought out many of Amy's best skills, and it is these skills of openness, communication, and the ability to give and take while still keeping a eye on the final goal that will make her a worthy county commissioner, not only for District 2, Seat B, but for all of Knox County."
David Booker, Second District Resident

"Every County Commissioner affects the life of every citizen in Knox County. Therefore, I take an interest in candidates in all districts. I am giving my time and money to help elect Amy Broyles because we need her intelligence, integrity, and work ethic on our County Commission."
Faith Tapp, Director, CCCC

"Amy has a solid character with good moral values. She has put a lot of effort and work into various aspects of the Knoxville Community, and I think that she would be a great candidate for this job. As I am a mother with a young family, I personally favor candidates who will bring family issues to the table."
Nicole Berkheimer, Knox County Resident

"I had the pleasure of meeting Amy Broyles several years ago and was impressed by not only her honesty and openness, but also by her seemingly limitless energy and good sense."
Nancy England, Democracy for East Tennessee

"Amy Broyles so impressed me when working with her during the last Presidential Campaign. She was organized and had a thorough grasp of the task. She efficiently gave those volunteers working with her the information needed. As volunteers, she empowered us to work with her to accomplish the job. Her abilities to understand the need and work with others to meet it are rare. Amy would be a refreshing leader for our community."
Suzanne H. Freeman, Friends of the Library

"Amy Broyles cares about her community and making a difference. She is hard working and active in her community and she has her neighbors' and peers' best interest as well as our children's futures in mind at all times. She will bring a small town community feeling to the big city."
Cynthia Nelson-Runyan, Second District Resident

"One of her strengths is her organizational skill. She can really be productive. I was impressed by her efforts to get voters registered and get volunteers to go all over town for this effort.

She has an invested interest in how schools operate. She has three daughters and would like to see inner city schools kept up as well as the new ones. She has a good temperament. She does not speak badly of people. She keeps her cool under stressful circumstances. She is not easily thrown off course. She is bright and highly motivated. She listens to other opinions. She is energetic, reliable and conscientious in regard to anything she says she will take on."
Lorraine Hart, Vice-Chair, Knox County Democratic Party

"I really admire Amy Broyles' initiative."
Amy Porter, Second District Resident

"Amy Broyles' actions with her family and the school community at Beaumont begin with real listening, and progress to thoughtful responses and timely on-target actions. She can both delegate and get in the trenches and do her part. This modem operandi will translate perfectly into serving her community on the County Commission. She has the good old-fashioned familiarity and dependability of the United States Post Office, and the accessibility, swiftness, ease and infinite connections of the Internet. She is a people person. Many of us in the school community count on her in her role as a Girl Scout leader, and she has worked on establishing a camaraderie of all the kids and parents, all without overextending herself too much, or seeming harried. She has worked to build bridges between the magnet class and the other classes of our school community. This too will translate well into the larger realm of her district. She will listen to you and take action on your behalf. Talk to her once and you will know she is the right choice."
Miriam Wilson, Beaumont School Parent

"Amy Broyles' energy, organizational skills, and ability to get people to pull together for the good of the community are impressive."
Em Turner Chitty, writer and UT Graduate Student, Public Administration

"I've had the pleasure of knowing Amy for the past couple of years, and I consider her an all around outstanding person. Amy is both positive and patient far beyond the norm. Her commitments to family and community alike have impressed me as much as her profound grasp of local issues. Amy is not only intelligent and a person of integrity, she is already a dedicated public servant. Her work in the neighborhood with the neighborhood watch program and traffic calming for safety, service to church, and Board of Old North Knoxville all combine to make her a natural selection."
Ron Brassfield, Knox County Resident

"As one of Amy's neighbors in Old North Knox, I have seen her work tirelessly on various projects here in our community. She is a great neighbor and a kind and compassionate person. Her energy and work ethic would be a huge asset to County Commission, where I know she would work just as hard on behalf of all of us."
Cathy Shuck, Second District Resident

"Amy Broyles is a unique public servant who is the perfect representative for this truly unique area of Knoxville"
Bill Keimig, Second District Resident

"Amy has an in-depth understanding of the issues and provides a fresh perspective that is much needed. Her concern for the community and her ability to build consensus make her an ideal representative and leader. She is also a joy to work with. No one is better qualified, and no one is better suited to the job. If you want what's best for the Second District, you want Amy Broyles."
Melissa Slaymaker, Knox County Resident and author of Bottle Houses

"In my many years of involvement in community organizing I have met very few folks as competent, committed, energetic, resilient, honest, down-to-earth and caring about the people of this community as Amy Broyles. If we really are the great community we try to be, we deserve to have Amy Broyles as one of our public servants."
Rick Held, Knox County Schools Social Studies Teacher
