Budget and Taxes
Amy is appalled at what has surfaced recently in regards to purchasing cards and grant money distributed by our county government. Waste should be eliminated from the county budget, and spending should be equitable among all districts.
Business Development
As a small business owner, Amy can bring to the Commission an understanding of what small businesses need to succeed, and how we can encourage more entrepreneurs in Knox County. She believes in rewarding businesses that demonstrate a commitment to their community.
Clean Air & Water
Amy is committed to creating a healthy environment in Knox County. She knows that the health of our air and our water affects the health of us all.
Education
Amy's kids are in our public schools, and she is deeply committed to the education of all children. She is involved in the PTA, the Read With Me program, and the Girl Scouts. She is committed to supporting arts and music in our schools. She supports healthier food choices in our schools, a later start date for the school year, and greater parental involvement in our schools. Our high school drop out rate is a particular concern of hers.
Libraries
Amy works with the Friends of the Library as a Branch Buddy at the North Knoxville Branch. She has helped start a book group there, and has been involved in the kids and teens programs.
Neighborhood Revitalization
Amy believes in quality growth, encouraging developers who use sustainable building practices, and in offering incentives for redevelopment in our urban core. She is involved through the North Knoxville Business and Professional Association with the I-275 Corridor Redevelopment plan.
Public Health
Amy spent 8 years working with pregnant teens, and is more than familiar with the health department's services and programs. She is an advocate for preventative health care and a better health care system for everyone.
Safe Neighborhoods
Amy's commitment to safer, stronger neighborhoods is evident. Old North Knoxville has done an outstanding job developing a Neighborhood Watch program and implementing a Traffic Calming program, and Amy was involved in both of those efforts. When developing the plan for the new park in Old North, Amy made a point of consulting with KPD on how to make the park less inviting to vandals, the homeless, and prostitutes.
Seniors & Veterans
Our Seniors are the jewels of our community. What they have to offer in terms of experience and insight is invaluable. Our veterans are also a tremendous resource and should be celebrated on more than just Veteran's Day. Seniors and veterans have earned a special place in our community, and deserve to be treated with respect and honor.
User-Friendly Government
Government belongs to the people. Public participation should be encouraged, government business should conducted in public, and elected officials should be accessible and accountable to their constituents.
